She graduated with honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. In 2001, she earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Jennifer began her legal career under the Honorable Trey Gowdy, then solicitor of the Seventh Judicial District, covering Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.
Her career took her to North Carolina, where she served as a state prosecutor before becoming an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina. As a federal prosecutor, Jennifer handled complex federal investigations into international drug trafficking organizations and money laundering. Returning to South Carolina in 2016, she worked with Solicitor Barry Barnette, leading a multi-jurisdictional domestic violence initiative and handling federal gun prosecutions as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. Her dedication earned her the prestigious John Justice Community Leadership Award in 2017.
